Battle Set Over Federal Defense of Marriage Act

It was 16 years ago that former President Bill Clinton signed it into law, and 12 months after President Obama ordered the Department of Justice to stop defending it, a federal judge in San Francisco ruled Wednesday that the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is unconstitutional because it bars health insurance and other benefits from being extended to the same-sex partners of government employees.  DOMA defines marriage as between a man and woman only!!!

Healthcare reform: 50,000 with pre-existing condition insured

Since the healthcare reform program began in 2010, about 50,000 Americans, according to government figures, with pre-existing conditions have become insured.  Kathleen Sebelious Secretary of the Department of  Health and Human Services, said the Affordable Care Act’s Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan — known as the PCIP — is helping fill a void in the insurance market for consumers with pre-existing conditions who are denied insurance coverage and are ineligible for Medicare or Medicaid coverage.

The Comparison: Obama Tax Plan vs UK Tax Raises – It Won’t Work

For quite some time now, Obama has told us that his new budget would put the country on track to achieve $4 trillion in deficit reductions over the next 10 years, achieved by raising taxes on the wealthy and trimming government spending.  And we were told that his new budget would cut spending by $2.50 for every $1 it raises in new taxes.

White House issues plan to protect online privacy

On Thursday the White House proposed a “bill of rights” that would give consumers greater online privacy protection and could eventually give the government greater powers to police Internet firms such as Google Inc and Facebook.  Supposedly, the new bill of rights, does not impose any immediate new obligations on online companies, President Barack Obama said it was part of a broader plan to give Americans more control over how their personal data was used on the Internet.

US Congress Members Threatened with Biological Attack

Last week, several members of Congress received mail threatening a biological attack and containing a suspicious powder later found to be harmless as law enforcement officials warned on Wednesday that more letters could be on their way.  Also, a number of media organizations and TV shows, including the New York Times and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, received mail postmarked Oregon warning that letters had been sent to the Washington or local offices of all 100 U.S. senators and that 10 contained a deadly pathogen.
