Wright Criticizes Those Who Say Obama is Muslim

The Reverand Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s former pastor, accused people who wrongly believe Obama is Muslim of catering to political enemies during a fiery speech Sunday in Arkansas.  While preaching at New Millennium Church in Little Rock, Wright criticized supporters of the Iraq war and defended former state Court of Appeals Judge Wendell Griffen for speaking out against it. Griffen serves as the church’s pastor.

He only mentioned Obama when he compared Griffen’s opponents to those who incorrectly think Obama is Muslim. As we know, the president’s full name is Barack Hussein Obama, but Wright still maintains Obama is a christian.

Governor Jan Brewer

One of the most influential women today in U.S. politics, who has gained worldwide notoriety, is Arizona Governor Jan Brewer.  A Republican, she is the fourth woman to hold the office, and the third consecutively.  Previously, she was the Secretary of State of Arizona, until then Governor Janet Napolitano resigned after being selected as Secretary of Homeland Security in January 2009.  Brewer became governor, per the state constitution, by succession.

Muslim Center Sparks Rallies

In downtown Manhattan Sunday, supporters and opponents of the Muslim cultural center, staged competing rallies, although they were kept apart by police and barricades.  This has all gained political attention as it centers on plans to build the center two blocks from the site of the September 11, 2001 attacks by al Qaeda, which killed nearly 3,000 people.  Republicans are using it to attack President Obama as his party fights to retain control of Congress.

Opponents say its proposed location is insensitive and fear it will harbor religious extremism. While those backing it cite the right to religious freedom and a need to promote tolerance and understanding.

Obama Once Again Makes 4 Recess Appointments

While on vacation, Obama once again bypassed a senate gridlock, and installed  three agency officials and a diplomat whose nominations had stalled amid election-year squabbling, using the recess appointment process.  Obama said the partisanship left him no choice, and that Americans deserve better.

“At a time when our nation faces so many pressing challenges, I urge members of the Senate to stop playing politics with our highly qualified nominees, and fulfill their responsibilities of advice and consent,” Obama said. “Until they do, I reserve the right to act within my authority to do what is best for the American people.”

Obama praises small businesses and community banks

In his pass through Seattle Washington on Tuesday, while on the campaign trail, President Barack Obama praised small businesses and banks, and took to task, large banks.  He also criticized the Republicans once again, for blocking legislation that he said would have helped small businesses in the struggling economy.

“The bottom line is this: America’s small businesses are the backbone of our economy and the cornerstones of our communities. The folks who own them work hard, meet their responsibilities … nobody here is getting too fat and happy; everybody here is operating on very lean margins, and they are constantly thinking about their employees and their obligations and responsibilities to them,” Obama said, adding that Washington must “look out” for small businesses in the same way.
