DOJ faulted over terrorist identities
How is this for incompetence? The government allowed “a small but significant number” of terrorists into America’s witness protection program and then failed to provide the names of some of them for a watch list that’s used to keep dangerous people off airline flights, the Justice Department’s inspector general says.
So as a result some in the witness protection program who were on a government “no-fly” list were allowed to travel on commercial flights. The FBI-managed screening center is the clearinghouse for information about known or suspected terrorists. In Thursday’s briefing, the DOJ said it had remedied the problem with a restrictive travel policy that prohibits program participants with no-fly status from traveling on commercial flights. The department declined to say how many people in the program actually flew.
Soros Gave $6.1 Million to Groups to pressure conservative non profits
As the IRS plan to target conservative groups, heated up, George Soros funded groups continually pressured the IRS to do so. As the first reported instances of extra IRS scrutiny for conservative groups began in Cincinnati in March of 2010, the attacks began to pick up steam on a national level soon after Soros-funded groups began firing off letters to the IRS in October of that year – following the Supreme Court’s Citizens United ruling.
Key IRS policy changes about how it investigated conservative groups took place soon after it received three separate letters sent by Soros-funded liberal organizations. It was discovered that several Soros-funded groups including the Campaign Legal Center, Democracy 21, the Center for Public Integrity, Mother Jones and Alternet have worked to pressure the IRS to target conservative nonprofit groups.
Rep Bass slams GOP Eric Holder ‘drum beat’
Rep Karen Bass says she’d have a hard time believing that Attorney General Eric Holder gets a fair shake from House Republicans who are already calling for his resignation.
“It’s really every few months that they call for his resignation,” Bass (D-Calif.) told MSNBC on Tuesday. “It’s shameful; we need to get back to the business of the country, and this kind of situation needs to stop.”
MSNBC Hosts blast Obama Administration, IRS for Targeting Conservatives
Is mainstream media waking up? Today MSNBC host Joe Scarborough tore into the federal government over the Internal Revenue Service’s targeting of conservative groups. Besides calling the admitted actions “mind-boggling,” the personality highlighted the assertion that “this government is using the Internal Revenue Service to target people with whom they disagree.” Others, like co-host Willie Geist, jumped in say that the collective actions constitute”tyranny.”
“When it comes to political speech, it’s sacrosanct. Our founding fathers meant for it to be sacrosanct,” Scarborough said, going on the lambaste the IRS. “Liberal and conservative Supreme Courts alike do not allow the government to tread on political speech. There is a wall around that, and the wall has been knocked down by the IRS for several years now.”
Susan Collins: I Don’t Buy ‘Rogue Agents’ Claim
On Sunday Republicans said that the Internal Revenue Service’s heightened scrutiny of conservative political groups was “chilling” and further eroded public trust in government. Lawmakers said Obama personally should apologize for targeting tea party organizations and they challenged the tax agency’s blaming of low-level workers.
“I just don’t buy that this was a couple of rogue IRS employees,” said Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine. “After all, groups with ‘progressive’ in their names were not targeted similarly.”
If it were just a small number of employees, she said, “then you would think that the high-level IRS supervisors would have rushed to make this public, fired the employees involved, apologized to the American people and informed Congress. None of that happened in a timely way.”
