I recently came across an article in the UK Guardian, that reported on the recent bombing in Boston, and some of the points made to Britains seems normal, but we Americans might find it strange. Last week, global news was following the events, which came to a head Friday. The Guardian article referred to Boston at that time as a ghost town, when residents were asked to stay in their homes, during the manhunt. We have to remember, this was about 1 million people.
During that time, schools were closed, business was shuttered, trains, subways and roads were empty, as the streets were bare. Even a baseball game was cancelled, which the new article thought was odd. All of these to find a 19 year old whose face was plastered all over the news.
Obama’s failure to send any top officials of his administration to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s funeral Wednesday sparked some heated criticism. According to Politico, there were a lot of negative comments.
“As the world bids farewell to Lady Margaret Thatcher today, it’s hard not to notice that America’s official presence at the state funeral for England’s most significant prime minister since Winston Churchill will be underwhelming,” the Post editorial read.
Most people, if they paid attention to what the mainstream media is saying, would believe that Romney’s trip overseas was a failure, but in fact, it was quite successful. Last week, Romney traveled abroad, and met with leaders of Great Britain, Israel, and Poland. And the reviews of how his campaign went are mixed, from being called borderline lunacy, by a GOP strategist, to Roger Simon of Politico saying he should have stayed home.
For quite some time now, Obama has told us that his new budget would put the country on track to achieve $4 trillion in deficit reductions over the next 10 years, achieved by raising taxes on the wealthy and trimming government spending. And we were told that his new budget would cut spending by $2.50 for every $1 it raises in new taxes.
A Muslim cleric who once called Americans the biggest criminals, has announced that he plans to hold a protest outside the White House. Anjem Choudary, who once said “the flag of Islam will fly over the White House,” says he will lead a demonstration rallying Muslims to establish Sharia law across the United States.
