Texas Rangers close to exiting bankruptcy
We have heard recently of how the Texas Rangers were close to bankruptcy, and the case was headed to court. Today, they are a step closer to avoiding the issue, as just hours after a marathon auction of the team, there was a hearing on Thursday to try and avoid the plan. It is expected that the judge will agree to the plan. This will then clear the way for Major League Baseball to formally approve a group led by Hall of Fame pitcher and Rangers president Nolan Ryan as the new owner next week.
The sale is no longer opposed by the creditors, because the auction resulted in a higher price for the Rangers. And the court-appointed restructuring officer is backing the plan after earlier objections.
When Sports Enter the Political Arena
When the Governor of the state of Arizona signed into law, the new immigration bill last month, that made it against the law to be in the state illegally, it caused and uproar from politicians to immigration advocate groups. It brought out protestors nationwide, and many called for other states, and citizens to boycott all businesses and tourism, in the state. Also included was the boycott of sporting events.
Recently in the news, one such boycott mentioned was for fans to boycott the Arizona Diamondbacks’ baseball games. Little do those crying foul realize, how much they are hurting the state industries with this nonsense. First of all, none of those calling for the boycott even understand what the law is about….many are saying it promotes racial profiling, which it doesn’t. In fact, Governor Jan Brewer recently signed an amendment to the law which prevents profiling, but that still hasn’t stopped the majority from protesting, thus, now sports have been brought into the battle.
